Meet the Creator of

   Prompts Gone Wild

Author of Prompts Gone Wild, Aaron Barry

Aaron Barry

Looks-wise, Aaron Barry is a 6 at best, but as a writer, he's easily a 10. After years of training, he was finally able to reach a level of sarcasm hitherto unknown, and he now applies this to every form he touches, including free verse, haiku, short stories, articles, and books.

To write the Prompts Gone Wild series, Aaron made sure to live like an utter degenerate. As a result, nearly every prompt is drawn in some way from real life experiences (much to his family's chagrin).

He lives in Port Moody, BC, Canada, but says Vancouver because it makes him sound fancy. Feel free to reach out to him directly at aaronteacher1@gmail.com or through the PGW Gmail account.

eggplants & teardrops: a haiku collection

By Aaron Barry

eggplants & teardrops: a haiku collection takes haiku into the 2020s, radically updating classic haiku conventions from the days of poetry greats like Matsuo Bashō and touching on contemporary subjects never before seen in the form.

Many of the poems in this collection have been featured across English-language haiku's most respected magazines, and now they've been artfully arranged for the first time and accompanied by thirty bold line art illustrations.

Author's Commentary

When I was trying to come up with concept for the fourth book in the series, I ran through a few ideas, but nothing stuck. I wanted to do something no writing prompt author  had yet tried (there are more of us than you'd expect), but it seemed as if most of the good ideas had already been taken.

I can't recall what it was, specifically, that gave me the idea to do an anime-themed collection -- maybe it was a meme a friend had sent me, or a manga I'd read -- but when it came to me, I knew it was a lock. Thus, the world's first anime-themed writing prompt book was born.

This prompt here represents the opening of the book, and a classic trope for the genre. I had fun researching more specific series, tropes, manga authors, etc. along the way, but this was one of the first prompts I wrote that felt "right," and it's still a favourite. Plus, the illustration Eunbyul Kwak did for it was mint.

Enjoy!
